Spell: A Spell for Study and Art

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Color of the day: Green
Incense of the day: Jasmine

Today the Moon is in Gemini, which is ruled by Mercury. Mercury is aligned to a number of deities, such as the Egyptian Thoth, the Greek Hermes, the Roman Mercury, and the Norse Woden. Any of these deities can be called upon to aid in study, research, and the creative arts. For this mini-spell, you may wish to call upon your deity of choice or simply invite the air spirits. Air is aligned to the mental plane, which is that of creation and creativity. Consult your favorite magical herbal and select some dried herbs that are attuned to the planet Mercury and/or the element air. Light a charcoal briquette (only the kind that's designed for indoor use as an incense burner) and have it in your study or art space. Get a yellow candle to represent air, the east, and the mind. When you sit down to get creative, surround the yellow candle with the mixture of herbs, putting some of them on the lit charcoal to create a cloud of intellectual smoke that can drift pleasantly throughout the room.
Say:

Great God _____, I call upon your Mercurial power as I ready myself to connect with the mental plane. Great spirits of air . . . flying sylphs . . . mighty guardian Raphael . . . I invite your presence into the space to bless my work and set the pace. As research and art are sacred acts, so then are my creations. Be with me in love and in light. So mote it be.
