Spell: Commemoration of the Myrrhbearers

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

The Lutheran Church recognizes August 3rd as the Commemoration of the Myrrhbearers, Joanna, Mary, and Salome: the women who famously visited Christ's tomb with fragrant myrrh, and found it empty. Myrrh was also one of the gifts that the magi famously brought to the manger. What do a manger and a tomb have in common? Bad smells. Indeed, myrrh was not only a treasured spiritual perfume, but also a means of overpowering an undesirable odor and changing an unfortunately pungent earthly atmosphere into a spiritual and transcendent one.
So today, if there is an aspect of your life that (metaphorically)stinks, describe it in writing on a piece of paper. In a cauldron or fire pit, safely light the paper on fire. As it burns, light three sticks of myrrh incense and smudge the flames with the fragrant smoke as you imagine the challenge transmuting into pure, sweet-smelling positivity and beauty.
