Spell: Make a Floral Carpet

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Onam is a Hindu harvest festival with mythological overtones. People celebrate with music, dancing, and feasts. A pookalam, or floral carpet, is made by arranging masses of flower petals into a design like a mandala. A clay statue of the deity Vamana may be placed within or beside the pookalam. The feasts feature curries, pickles, and rice.
Honor this holiday by making a floral carpet of your own. You may choose tropical flowers from India, or local ones in season such as aster, chrysanthemum, daisy, rose, sunflower, and zinnia. Use color and floral correspondences to symbolize what you desire, such as a fruitful harvest, a beautiful landscape, a tranquil home, or a healthy nation.
Pull the petals off the flower heads and use them to make an attractive design. As you work, concentrate on what you want to manifest.
Afterward, take a photo of your pookalam to save and remember later.
