On this day in 1972, the first leap second was added to the Coordinated Universal Time system. Because Earth's speed of rotation is irregular, leap seconds are periodically added to a day in order to keep in sync with the mean solar day, which affects the length of the days we perceive on Earth. Today is also Monday, the start of the work week for many.
In honor of the start of the week as well as the anniversary of the leap second, be sure to take a few extra moments of your own to ground and center for the start of the week. Listen to relaxing music and drink a cup of herbal tea. Take time out to do a favorite yoga pose, or simply sit still and breathe deeply for a few moments. Ground, center, and find a place of balance. Always remember to take time as needed to recenter and maintain your internal balance. |
