Spell: Ritual of the Ashes

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

This is a kind of sympathetic magic-magic in which a physical substance is used to create a magical link between people, places, or ideas. The ritual of the ashes is a wonderful tradition that will empower your candle magic, altar craft, ritual fires, and even your family hearth. Start by selecting a glass or ceramic jar with a tight lid. You may wish to select a special vessel for this purpose.
Begin by placing some ash from a hearth fire, smudging, or candle magic into the jar. Thereafter, every time you work with fire, start the process by adding a pinch of ash from the ritual jar. Once done, add a bit of the cooled ashes back to the jar. Keep a list of which ashes are added, the date, and the circumstances. As your jar of ashes accumulates, they become a powerful sympathetic link binding intention, time, and place.
