Spell: Hecate's Divination Ritual

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Hecate (or Hekate) is a triform goddess worshipped in ancient Greece, although her origins may be much older. In modern neo-Pagan traditions, tonight is dedicated to Hecate, who rules over the realms of mystery, sorcery, and augury. A simple divination rite can be performed in her name using three silver or copper coins that are stamped with heads and tails.

At sundown, light a red candle and some incense of black storax, patchouli, or myrrh (or commercially made "Hecate incense") in safe containers. Drop your three coins onto a black cloth while asking your question. Meanings:

  • Three heads: Yes
  • Three tails: No
  • Two heads, one tail: Likely
  • Two tails, one head: Unlikely
  • One tail in the middle of two heads: A problem may be encountered halfway through the endeavor, with an eventual positive outcome.
  • Tail, head, tail: Wait until later.

Carefully extinguish the candle and incense or allow them to burn out. Thank Hecate, and make an offering to her of dark bread and red wine or pomegranate juice.
