POSTED UNDER Solstice, Summer, Sun

Spell: All Hail the Sun!

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

The summer solstice is the year’s longest day, when we celebrate light and life and steel ourselves for the return of the dark half. In agricultural terms, it also represents the arrival of summer and the growing season.

Rise early in the morning and enjoy a feast of sunny-side-up eggs— powerful little solar symbols. Dress in fiery colors of orange, red, and sungold. Throughout the day, be aware of what is growing around you, and feast abundantly on summer’s first fruits and vegetables. A quiche (round like the sun) is a terrific way to celebrate summer’s gifts. Be outdoors as much as possible.

In the evening, kindle fire, whether a fire pit in your yard or a candle in the living room. Reflect on the sun’s gifts of light and life, intoning:

Thanks for gifts of summer sun,
abundant food and golden light.
Feed our bodies and our souls, and
guide us through the coming night.
