On Mother's Day, it's important to remember to honor Mother Earth, our first mother. Think of a natural feature local to you that you find sacred, such as a stream, a large wall of exposed rock, or a special tree in your yard. These features, while having individual spirits, are also manifestations and parts of the body of our Mother Earth. Gather some ecofriendly offerings for Mother Earth in a small basket or on a tray with a small bell or rattle. Reverently approach your chosen natural feature. Ring the bell or shake the rattle to announce your presence, and petition the spirits and Mother Earth. Sprinkle the offerings at the base of your chosen feature. Offer a prayer, such as the following:
"Mother Earth, I ask thee, Help me live more gently. My gratitude to you and all your creatures. May they be our sacred teachers." |
