Spell: Spontaneous Poetry as Spellcraft

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Color of the day: White
Incense of the day: Cinnamon

There are many types of poems. Some are stylized in specific patterns and rhythms; others are more free form and less structured. Poems can be rhyming or rhythmic (these types are especially effective in spellwork), they can be stories or tales, or they can be a string of words and symbolic imagery written "off the top of the head." In the latter, abstract and arcane imagery become the essence of the work. I see this as a form of spiritual channeling or automatic writing, in which the writer acts as a conduit for words of the divine. I believe that all writing, to one degree or another, includes channeled musings. Is the writer or artist really "in control," or is there something greater at work? Today, dedicate yourself to moments of spontaneous poetry writing. Keep a pen and paper with you throughout the day and take frequent breaks. Allow the words to "write themselves" with you as the conduit. Write down anything that comes to you, letting it flow smoothly. If you write a seemingly nonsensical string of words, take time in the evening to sit at your altar and meditate on their deeper meaning. You may also wish to construct the day's poetry into a greater, longer piece of work.
