Spell: A Bonfire Night Divination

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

In Britain on this night in 1605, Guy Fawkes' plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament failed. Today known as Bonfire Night in England, this is a holiday for bonfires and fireworks to commemorate the thwarted Gunpowder Plot. The fire meditation that follows is a very suitable form of magic for this night. Find a quiet spot and intone these words while following their directions:

When you feel the need to inquire,
Sit before the winter fire.
Upon the flames, sprinkle yarrow, thyme, and marigold.
With these, your answer will be told.
Hold your eyes steady as you gaze
Deeply into the dancing blaze;
In the yellow flames, in the orange flames,
Do you see an image, a face, or name?
If the flames fail to speak, try again-but wait a week.
