As the nights get longer, it’s important to remember the light and bring it into your home. Acquire a tall white pillar candle. If it’s one that is already in glass, grab a marker to write on the glass with. If it’s an all-wax candle, find a safe holder for it, and you can write directly into the wax, using a toothpick or ballpoint pen.

Make six asterisks (*) around the sides of the candle, plus one large asterisk across the top, with the wick at the center. Light the candle (and remake the top asterisk as necessary), saying:

Light of sun and twinkle of star,
Make your way here from afar.
Into this home, bring your light,
Holding back the dark of night.
