To alleviate the affects of short-term depression, light a yellow candle and meditate on how you feel right now. Give this feeling a name-such as "Gus." The sillier the name, the better. Then, light a green candle. Meditate on how you feel now that you've named the previous feeling. Give this new feeling a name. Again, silly is good. After lighting a blue candle, meditate on how you feel now that you've named the previous feeling. Repeat the routine. Finally, light a red candle. Know that you have control over what you do with your emotions, just as you have control over choosing names for your emotions. Now you can allow yourself to be aware of what started the depression. For most people, something happened that initially caused anger and then caused fear. |
