The seventh psychic center is physically indicated by the pineal gland and the cerebral cortex (containing billions of cells or "petals" beyond count). Sahasrara is said to be the dwelling-place of Shiva, the destroyer of ignorance (Maya). This is an esoteric statement conveying the ability of humans to destroy ignorance (Maya) by the use of enlightened consciousness (Shiva), which results from the awakening of Sahasrara chakra. The brain can be thought of as the largest of the body's endocrine glands, with brain chemistry primarily responsible for mood alterations and changes of consciousness
