What would your Destiny Self tell you today?

Tarot Rituals: Ceremonies, Ideas & Experiences for the Tarot Lover by Nancy Antenucci is a long-awaited book by one of tarot’s most experienced and creative ritual creator. This work is rich in information on forming a relationship with the archetypes of tarot and using the power therein to shape your life. Nancy provides a foundation but leaves space for your creativity and intuition, and for the sacred, to unfold around and within you. Some of the rituals are deceptively simple, others more complex. Over the next few months, we’ll share some of the simple rituals.

My birthday is in January and Nancy provides several ritual ideas appropriate for the occasion. I’m considering the Destiny Self Ritual. Here is an abbreviated description (the book provides more foundational material on performing rituals).

We have talked about your self, your many selves, and your ancestral self. One more self that can truly offer helpful guidance is your Destiny Self. This future self has manifested this life’s destiny starting from this moment. This is not who you will become by default but rather by fearless love.

Select a special time to do this ritual, such as your birthday or a relevant astrological alignment. Have all the major arcana faceup in a big circle encompassing the center seat. Have the minor cards in one pile within reach. Make your way to sit in the center facing the World card.

Set a timer for fifteen minutes. Go within as you envision traveling to your future self. Imagine and ask to meet your Destiny Self the day before they die. Use the Power of Pretend to imagine who you would be at this last point of your life if you lived fearlessly in love from your current age. Release any of your own fears or misconceptions about your appearance or power.

Once you can imagine this meeting, you are encouraged to have an easy dialogue. If you have no questions of your own, consider asking them what you are currently doing that is totally on the pulse, off track, or not on the radar at all in terms of becoming them. Pull one card for each of these focuses to help affirm their message at a later time. Return from the meditation once the allotted time is over. Close the circle with gratitude. The chosen cards affirm the messages received or deliver brand new insights.
