A Warming Cordial

Color of the day:  Maroon
Incense of the day:  Cedar

This concoction warms, heals, celebrates, and looks gorgeous as well. Start this now and it'll be ready for winter celebrations and rituals. You'll need:

  • 12 ounces fresh whole cranberries (rich in vitamins and antioxidants)
  • 2 one-quart canning jars with tight lids
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • A bottle of good vodka
  • A table knife

Rinse and dry the cranberries, then chop finely—a food processor works well for this. Spoon into a canning jar, and top with the white sugar. Slowly fill the jar with vodka, removing bubbles and gaps with the knife. You'll need to keep adding more as the sugar dissolves and the mixture settles. Once the jar is filled, screw on the lid. Keep the jar on the kitchen countertop out of direct light. Shake daily.

After six weeks, strain into a fresh jar. Store in the fridge. Warm up by sipping small amounts of the brilliant red liquid, use as a celebratory cocktail mixer, or use in ritual, with the red color symbolizing blood and health.
