Fire Scrying

Color of the day:  Yellow
Incense of the day:  Marigold

What's more evocative of primal magic than fire? Each time we strike a match, light a candle, or build a campfire, we're to the flame—just like moths, so the saying goes. Through this intense connection, fire also provides a powerful divinatory tool via fire scrying.

To "scry" is to open oneself to the larger world and one's place in it. Begin by kindling a fire: light a candle or, even better, kindle an indoor or outdoor hearth or campfire.

Sit before your candle or fire, dressed comfortably and prepared to sit in place for 15 to 30 minutes. As you gaze into the flame, ask whatever question is on your mind and repeat:

Flames of power, heat, and light,
Bring me guidance on this night.
May it be so.

As you scry, watch for obvious fiery symbols or manifestations. Let your mind step away from the present, too, and relax into possibility, aware of messages and intuitions that may follow. Once done, put the fire out and journal about the experience.
