POSTED UNDER Love, Water

Spell to Honor the Dead

Color of the day:  Topaz
Incense of the day:  Bay laurel

Many people honor the dead at this time of year. Creating a space to acknowledge those who have passed forges a bond between yourself and the dead, allowing a meaningful magical relationship to grow.

Set aside an area on your altar, or create a new altar. Find a photo of those who have passed. Think about what they enjoyed in life, and choose an object to represent this, such as a drink they loved or a tool they often used in their work. Arrange these on your altar and place a few fresh flowers and a glass of water near their photo. Keep the water refilled each day, replace any wilted flowers, and keep the area clean. The act of maintaining the physical altar will sustain your connection to the dead.

When you wish to connect to your dead, light a candle on the altar and enter a relaxed state. Allow them to come to you in whatever form they choose. This could be a flood of fond memories or even a physical sensation. You can simply enjoy their presence, knowing they’re still with you. Other times you can ask them for help or guidance in your life. The more frequently you practice this, the more connected you will become.

You can keep this altar space all year round. Honoring the dead isn’t just for one season!
