POSTED UNDER Moon

New Moon Snake Magic

Color of the day:  Pink
Incense of the day:  Yarrow

For this new moon, use the symbolism of the snake to represent transformation and renewal. First, forget any negative associations you have with snakes. They’re remarkable creatures that we need in the environment, but unfortunately many people have been conditioned to dislike and fear them. We should certainly respect them and use caution around them since there are, of course, poisonous ones, but snakes can be a powerful magical symbol.

Find an image of a snake that you find pleasing—a statue, drawing, photo, tattoo, or even a piece of jewelry. Spend some time meditating on it. One of the reasons snakes are so prominent in myth and folklore is because of their ability to shed their skin. Use this as a metaphor for your own renewal and transformation.

Light some incense and watch the smoke curl and rise upward, like a snake. See yourself like the snake, shedding an old “skin” to emerge renewed, transformed, healed, or whatever you need to have a fresh start. Here’s a chant you can repeat as you meditate:

Shed old skin, start again.
Strength is within; it’s time to begin.
