Color of the day: Yellow Incense of the day: Heliotrope On this day in 1945, the United Nations founded the Food and Agriculture Organization, dedicated to dealing with the issues of poverty and hunger. In 1979, World Food Day was officially established as an international celebration. Each year, the day has a different theme and focus, usually revolving around agriculture, and events are held in over 150 countries. But you don’t need to be part of a worldwide organization to do your bit toward ending hunger. Today, donate to your local food pantry or, if you garden, give a part of your harvest to a food kitchen. If you know someone who is struggling, drop off a bag of groceries. No matter what else you do, try to have a renewed appreciation for the food on your own table. Remember to thank the gods and those who worked hard to produce the food, and be grateful. |
