POSTED UNDER Earth, Sun

A Ritual of Thanks

Color of the day:  Black
Incense of the day:  Ginger

During July, the earth begins to bless us with its bounty. This ritual gives thanks for our food supply. Begin the ritual at sunset. Drape your altar in rich purple or green fabric. Upon the altar place one glass of red wine or purple grape juice. Face west, then ground and center. Speak these words:

Slowly the sun’s power
begins to decline.
Still we’re blessed with the fruit
of the orchard from the vine.
Great Mother, thank you for
your gifts from the land.
Farmers, thank you for all that
comes from your calloused hands.

Now raise your beverage in a toast and take a sip. Truly stop and think about where our food comes from. Next, carry the rest of your beverage outside. Respectfully pour it upon the earth in a show of thanks. Finally, when you can, purchase something from a farmers’ market to support your local growers.
