Handwritten Magic

Color of the day:  Indigo
Incense of the day:  Rue

Much magic relies on writing. We write spells and books. We inscribe words or names on stones, candles, wands, and other magical tools. We create magical alphabets such as runes and ogham. These work better when handwritten than when typed or printed out.

Today is National Handwriting Day, so take some time to practice the magic of handwriting. For this exercise you’ll need a pen. A ballpoint pen will do, a fountain pen is better, and a dip nib is best of all. (Most magical inks are designed to work only with dip nibs.) You’ll also need a nice piece of paper, like parchment or linen, but one with not too much texture. Finally, you’ll need a ribbon.

Write the complete alphabet on the paper, forming each letter with intent. In English, “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” uses every letter once. Choose a different writing system if you like. Roll up the page and tie it with the ribbon. Keep the scroll on your altar so the gods know your handwriting.
