POSTED UNDER Air, Autumn, Bath, AND MORE

The Single Traveler

Color of the day:  Brown
Incense of the day:  Lilac

I observe a tradition of travel in the autumn, some quiet time alone for reflection. A set of actions makes the hotel room my own. Feel free to incorporate these into your own travels.

Open or close the drapes, whichever is appropriate. No matter how short a time you plan to be there, unpack and air out your clothing. Fill the ice bucket, and place perishables in the mini-fridge. Place any books and personal items on the extra bed or a desk. Set all toiletries on the bathroom vanity. Do all of this in a careful, mindful way-not haphazard, but with the intention of clearing out the energy of previous inhabitants. When checking out, be sure to leave a gratuity for the housekeeping staff. This builds goodwill and good luck for future travels.

"Travels take me far and wide,
Hearth and house are left aside.
A few days of a simpler life,
Less clutter, less noise, less strife,
In this temporary home for me.
As I write, so mote it be."
