The Journey of Sacred Objects

Color of the day:  Scarlet
Incense of the day:  Basil

The Emerald Buddha, a nowiconic Buddhist statue, resided in many places before coming to rest at its current location in Wat Phra Kaew, Thailand, on this day in 1784. Sacred objects and icons often go through a long and seemingly divinely guided journey, changing hands many times until they reach their proper home and caretakers. In honor of this process and of the Emerald Buddha, today think about a sacred object in your possession that you know you are not meant to be the permanent caretaker of. Think if you know a person whom that object is meant to be passed on to, and take steps toward passing it along. Or, alternatively, think about an object you possess that is meant to be in your care but has not found its proper place in your home. Take the time today to find a place of honor in your dwelling for that sacred object.
