POSTED UNDER Moon, Peace, Summer

New Moon of Remembrance

Color of the day:  Topaz
Incense of the day:  Marjoram

It is a new moon and it is also Veterans Day, the day we celebrate and honor those who have given their years-and sometimes their lives-to defend our country and the rights we hold sacred. In his 1919 proclamation of the day, President Woodrow Wilson asked that this day be filled with "solemn pride" in honoring these veterans, and the ebbing energy of today's new moon creates a perfect setting for this solemnity. The day is also sometimes called "Remembrance Day," and it is, indeed, a good time for remembering.
Rise early and walk your bounds, circling your property three times as you contemplate what it means to live in a free country and considering the many sacrifices that have made that possible. Lay flowers or a wreath on your altar space, and pause in "solemn pride" as you pay your respects to those veterans who have moved on to the Summerlands. If you can, visit a nearby veterans' monument or park. Walk the bounds there, too, reaching out and trying to connect with the spirits of the place. Thank them, bless them, and ask them to be at peace.
