Ritual of Freedom

Color of the day:  Gray
Incense of the day:  Rue

Assert your independence! Take a moment to ponder what independence and freedom really mean to you. Do these words indicate a life unencumbered, with no commitments to anyone for any reason, or do you feel that the ties that bind are also the ties that free? For some folks, having a strong bond to a coven or a family of friends can help them become more independent.
Write a personal declaration of independence for yourself, honoring the connections that are healthy and productive in your life, and acknowledging the connections that no longer serve. Carve a symbol on a tealight or votive candle for each connection you wish to acknowledge in this spell, and tie a string from you to the light. Then, cut the threads of the outmoded connections with total love and respect, and acknowledge that the ones you choose to keep are part of your freedom, too.
