Rowan Protection Sachet Spell

Color of the day:  Yellow
Incense of the day:  Hyacinth

A protection sachet is one of the easiest to make of protective charms. Cut a piece of white cloth into a seven-inch square. Put some rowan in a bowl. Place the white cloth on the altar. Put rowan in its middle and tie up the cloth in four corners with a thin red or yellow ribbon. Make several knots to your satisfaction. When ready, light altar candles and some incense. Hold the sachet with both hands and say:
I command thy protective spell, To serve me well!
Other herbs such as angelica, basil, bay laurel, dill, fennel, mugwort, rosemary, rue, tarragon, and vervain can be mixed with rowan for use in the sachet. The ancient Babylonian method of binding stems of rowan and other protective herbs together with red thread for hanging is still used in many Pagan and non-Pagan households today. In Italy several centuries ago, people tied many dozen yards of red thread or yarn around a twig of rowan for placing at a window where it was visible outdoors for deterring outside malefic forces from the property. Like hazelwood, rowan is excellent in protecting against lightning and its branches are made into magical wands.
