Color of the day: Gray Incense of the day: Almond Incense of the day: Almond In Scotland, grain seeds were ritually prepared before being sown in the sacred Earth. Three days before sowing, the seeds were sprinkled with clear, cold water as the water-bearer walked in a sunwise direction. The person performing the ritual invoked the Christian Trinity in later times, a replacement for the Sacred Three (the gods, the ancestors, and the land) which were venerated in earlier times. This ritual took place sometime between Imbolc and Spring Equinox. A variety of charms were spoken before the seeds were planted: I will sow the seed, I will face the wind And throw a gracious handful on high. The dew will come to welcome every seed That lay in sleep since the coming of cold. They will inhale life from the soft wind, And every seed will take root in the Earth. |
