Today on Saint Urban's Day, a sixteenth-century spell claims, if you hang a lock of your hair in front of an image of Saint Urban it will grow long and golden. A strand of hair can also serve as a divination tool. Just pluck a single strand of hair from your head. Hold the strand tightly between your thumbs and forefingers, then release it. The number of bends the hair takes are the number of spouses you will have. To see one's future mate, two unmarried people must sit before a blazing fire from midnight until one in the morning. It is essential that they remain absolutely silent. At one o'clock, each person plucks as many hairs from their head as they are years old. Feeding each hair into the fire they say:

I offer this my sacrifice
To him most precious in my eyes
I charge thee now come forth to me
That I this minute may thee see.
