LLEWELLYN'S SPELL-A-DAY

The Sacred Magic of Play

Color of the day:  Red
Incense of the day:  Musk

Like the Fool of the tarot, the energy of this day is a signal of the amazing possibilities for those who dare to take a few risks. To do so, place paper, pen, a red candle and holder, glitter, crayons, and other childlike toys before you. Then say:

This spell I work in early morn,
Ready this day for magic born.

I am here, and I am not, The magic must find me before I am caught.

I write my spell upon this paper,
I light this tall red
candle taper.

I am the Fool open to wisdom,
I am the wise soul at play.
Magic can be spun from light,
and sound and colors bright.

Visions linger,
And laughter rises.
Messages come as happy surprises.

Magic dance in my heart And banish all worry and woe.

On this magical day the universe reveals,
A glimpse of secrets to me.

Secrets that less playful souls,
Can never know or see.

So mote it be.

Holiday lore: April Fools' Day originated because the Romans
celebrated their New Year on this day. In fact, their eight-day New Year festival of rebirth and renewal that was so popular that it persisted well into the Middle Ages, until the new Gregorian calendar was adopted. Some believe the day's current tradition of mean-spirited pranks come from a lingering confusion and resent-ment at the loss of the old festival.
