Growing Herbs

Growing herbs is a delightful past time. Not only can we enjoy the curious fragrances and often beautiful leaves and flowers of the plants themselves, but we’re also assured of a steady supply of herbs for use in magic. Most herb magicians grow at least a few herbs.

Packets of herb seeds are available at any nursery. Many also offer small starter plants. The most popular of these herbs to grow include lavender, rosemary, rue, rose geranium, spearmint, peppermint, basil and thyme??"all of which have magical uses.

Herb seeds are planted outdoors (or seedlings are set) after danger of frost has passed in spring. Indoors, herbs can be grown year-round, if placed in sunny windows. Some herbs are more tolerant of indoor gardening than others. Experiment.

It was once believed that herbs thrived when they were neglected, or when planted in poor soil. This isn’t the case. Herbs deserve our loving attention and care. With a bit of work, they’ll provide us with many happy hours of herbal spell casting.

Remember, however, that it isn’t necessary to grow herbs??"it’s simply fun.
