Readers, please enjoy this guest blog post by Alise Marie, author of the new Beauty Witch’s Secrets.

Alise MarieLe printemps. As her name suggests, doesn’t Spring always seem, somehow, as if it is for the first time? As she sashays down the runway lined with budding trees and flowers awakening to the sweetness of birdsong, we cannot believe our fortune: the season of growing has arrived, finally, and we simply cannot get enough of her.

Just as we drop the heavy, hooded velvet cloak of Winter to the dampened earth, our newly naked skin, hair, and body craves renewal. My beauty offerings to you this season are three of my time-honored favorites gathered from my just-released book, The Beauty Witch’s Secrets: Recipes and Rituals For The Modern Goddess, and my monthly column, The Beauty Witch®. These are sensually pleasurable potions that gently release old energies while simultaneously feeding your beauty, to reveal and nurture a starlit glow blessed by plant power and pure magic.

As you conjure these potions, connect with each ingredient and its gifts, both magical and practical. Visualize your intention, feel it being so, stir your potions clockwise, and always give thanks.

Vernal Vixen Facial

Facial

Conjures one treatment

  • 1 ripe apricot, mashed (or 1 teaspoon apricot powder)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut milk
  • ¼ teaspoon vitamin E
  • 6 drops chamomile oil

*For this one you will need either fresh or frozen apricots—dried won’t work. If they aren’t available, you can find apricot powder online. If using powder, feel free to add a bit more coconut milk for a desired creamy consistency.

This sweetly scented masque leaves skin elastic, refreshed, plumped, hydrated, smooth, and fully restored! Though it is particularly effective during a waxing-to-full Moon, use it blissfully whenever your skin craves renewal, healing, and potent moisture.

In a small bowl, mash the apricots into a smooth paste. Add the coconut milk and mix to form a creamy consistency. Add the vitamin E and chamomile oil, one at a time, stirring as you bring forth the expansive beauty of Spring. Apply a layer to clean skin, and allow it to set for 20 minutes. Remove with a warm cloth, then rinse thoroughly. Pat dry, and apply your serum or moisturizer.

Apricot: Among the first of the Spring fruits, Venusian apricots bring love and peace along with a multitude of beauty benefits. In addition to vitamins and minerals, when used topically they contain fruit acids that gently lift away dead skin cells and promote new growth. Their abundance of both vitamin A and C create an age-defying combo of cell renewal and protection.

Vitamin: E Protective and healing, vitamin E repairs damaged skin, lightens hyperpigmentation, and provides needed antioxidants as a defense against free radical damage.

Chamomile: Gentle, water-ruled chamomile is your skin’s best friend, especially when paired with a fruit acid. It will help to calm any slight redness, soothe, and soften while gracing you with the magic of love and money—ever welcome as you step out for a night on the town!

Coconut: Lush and highly spiritual, coconut promotes psychic awareness and clear visions. It is loaded with good beauty fats, adding creamy richness to the potion and to your skin.

Beauty Witch® Secret: You can add more anti-aging power to the treatment by massaging in the masque first before letting it set. If you have very sensitive skin, you may wish to test an area first, as the fruit acids already provide manual exfoliation.

Lady of the Golden Pond Facial

Lady of The Golden Wood
Hair Masque
Conjures 1-2 treatments

This lush potion lavishes your hair with nutritive oils that deeply moisturize, strengthen, and promote new growth to your mane, while keeping it light and full of life. Use this to restore hair any time you like. It is particularly effective during the New-to-Full Moon cycle.

  • 1/2 banana, very ripe and mashed
  • 1 tablespoon grapeseed oil
  • 6 drops lavender essential oil
  • 3 drops rosemary essential oil
  • 4 drops ylang ylang essential oil

Mash the banana in a bowl until it becomes very smooth and creamy. Ideally, use a mortar and pestle to really get it soft and silky, but if you don’t have one, a fork or potato masher will do. Add in the grapeseed oil, and whisk it together until the mixture gets fluffy. Drop the essential oils in one at a time and blend slowly in a clockwise direction. Massage first into your scalp joyously, with visions of full, lustrous new hair growing, then work the potion through the ends of your hair, paying special attention to dry tips. Pile hair loosely on top of your head, and place beneath a plastic shower cap.
Leave the cap on for 20 minutes. Remove the cap and give your head another slow, sensual massage. Step into the shower, and wash with a gentle botanical shampoo. Rinse well. You can add a drop of your favorite natural conditioner here as a sealant and rinse again with cool water.

Banana: The humble banana is actually an ancient sacred food, closely tied to spirituality. It is said to bring luck and heighten feelings of love. Bananas also make a wonderfully rich hair treatment for their combination of high water content and natural moisturizing oils, which help repair damaged strands and increase elasticity.

Grapeseed Oil: Mineral-rich grape-seed oil feeds the scalp with proteins and vitamin E but is light enough to impart shine on all types of hair without feeling greasy. Grapes are lunar-ruled water fruits that hold the magic of both fertility and prosperity, making them fabulous consorts when it comes to creative endeavors. Rich in antioxidants and flavonoids, they promote new cellular growth to the scalp, impart sheen, and provide UV protection.

Lavender: Lovely lavender, also known as “elf leaf,” protects hair from thinning and loss while simultaneously aiding in new growth. It holds powers of love, peacefulness, protection, and longevity.

Rosemary: Interestingly, lusty rosemary is also known as “elf leaf,” bearing love, healing, intellect, and youth. It arrives here for these palpable gifts but also for its ability to increase cellular metabolism in the scalp, stimulating not only mystical prowess but bountiful, healthy hair growth.

Ylang Ylang: The fragrant, sweet dew of the ylang ylang star flower is a beautiful natural conditioner that strengthens hair and assists new growth. It holds the magic of love, beauty, and happiness.

Sacred Spring Scrub

Sacred Spring
Body Exfoliant

Conjures 3-6 treatments

  • ½ cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
  • 1/3 cup avocado oil
  • Seeds of one vanilla bean

Easy, fun, and delightful! After all, it is a season of pleasure, yes? Store in an airtight glass jar, and enjoy whenever you need a good, sexy sloughing. Exfoliants clear away old skin and energy, but they also deposit nutrients, so although a waning-to-new Moon is an optimal time to use them, really, they can work during any lunar phase. What changes is your intention.

Carefully slice the vanilla bean lengthwise, and gently scrape the tiny seeds into the coconut sugar, then add the cacao and oil, and mix all the ingredients together in a bowl, breaking up any coconut sugar lumps that may appear. If you prefer, you can always add a little more oil, though I find this amount works well. Massage liberally into damp skin in a circular motion, then raking your fingers in long, sweeping strokes toward the heart. Rinse well. The sexy scent and softness will linger on your skin.

Cacao: is fire-ruled beauty magic, enhancing mood and stirring sexual desire. Rich in antioxidants, your whole body will love this treasure in its purest form—when used topically, your skin benefits from its nutrients and high vibration.

Avocado oil: Prized for its nutrient-rich fats that absorb into your skin for superior moisture and cloak you from head to toe in the lush gifts of Venus.

Vanilla: Lusty, fragrant, and rich in copper, this potent aphrodisiac helps to promote collagen and elastin production.

Coconut sugar: Full of beauty minerals and provides a gentle, yet effective exfoliation, with no glycemic interference, and all the magic of coconut.

Beauty Witch® Secret: This recipe makes such a gorgeous gift! Adorn your vessel with fresh or dried flowers secured by a fetching ribbon, and share with someone you adore.

Moonlight Forest Body Oil
Body Oil

Conjures approximately 5 oz.

  • 4 oz. sweet almond oil
  • 9 drops cypress essential oil
  • 8 drops geranium essential oil
  • 8 drops lavender essential oil
  • 8 drops carrot seed essential oil
  • 6 drops juniper essential oil

As you do a little Spring striptease, revealing bare and beautiful legs, use this heavenly body treatment to keep you smooth and supple. Magically, this is a highly protective potion, which also contains healing, longevity, and love energies. The essential oil blend boosts your circulation, courtesy of cypress and juniper, giving your skin an effervescent glow. Make this oil at the new Moon. Place it in a window to absorb celestial energy until the full Moon, for optimum healing and magical potency.

Pour the sweet almond oil into a fetching potion bottle. Use colored glass, as it will protect the potion, while still inviting cosmic absorption (you can later decant it into another vessel if you wish, after it receives its celestial charge.) Then carefully, and with intention, add each of the oils in, one at a time. Energetically let your intentions flow into your creation, with clear visuals, and with a feeling of that manifestation coursing through your body. Swirl the bottle in a clockwise motion to blend everything. Set it out to the stars.

Sweet Almond: A gorgeous, nutritive base for body oils, one that glides smoothly over your skin’s surface. It is high in vitamin E, protecting skin from both oxidative and environmental stress while warding off UV damage and fighting wrinkles.

Geranium and lavender are a wonderful duo to help keep insects away, without disruptive, toxic chemicals, with the magic of protection, happiness, love, peace, and healing. And they smell fantastic.

Carrot Seed tops it all off as a natural SPF with serious anti-wrinkle prowess, promoting feelings of peace and happiness, too!

Beauty Witch® Secret: Oh, and…there might just be a pinch of lustiness in there, too. So, if you’re feeling a bit frisky in the great outdoors, just blame it on Spring, the stars, and your good friend The Beauty Witch™.
